When should I start the application process For my CPSA license?

Application process can be started up to 4 months prior to graduation - do not delay.

The College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) accepts applications for independent practice registration through physiciansapply.ca only.

After the College receives your Review of Qualifications from physiciansapply, they will conduct an assessment to determine if you are eligible to be granted access to the complete application. The College charges a non-refundable fee for this service, payable when you submit the Review of Qualifications, so please ensure you meet ALL the requirements in Step 2 before you submit. (Note: This fee is in addition to any fees charged for your physiciansapply account.)

What if I do not pass my CCFP, can I still practice in Calgary?

You will be required to obtain a “provisional license” through the CPSA. Contact www.cpsa.ab.ca for further information. Do not delay the application process for licensure until results are received.

I require a medical staff appointment (privileges) to work in an AHS facility, when should I apply?

All family physicians are encouraged to obtain a medical staff appointment with the Department of Family Medicine, which will connect the physician to supports and services available in the Department.

Application process should be started at least 90 to120 days prior to work start date. The Department of Family Medicine cannot commit to a July 1st start day. To ensure there are not further delays the process should be started by April 1.
