Whether you are a resident in our two year Urban or Rural residency program or in one of our Enhanced Skills specializations, you are assured you will be embarking on an amazing learning experience. Our Urban and Rural residency programs provide an opportunity for you to take what you have learned at medical school and build on the competencies you need to become a Family Physician. You will learn how to manage the common and not-so-common conditions seen in Primary Care; in health care teams you will look after and be responsible for patients and their families over a period of time; you will come to understand the critical role of the doctor-patient relationship and the importance of the Family Physician in caring for and supporting patients and their families, both during times of crisis and times of calm.
To make this happen, we will provide you with the learning opportunities and resources you need to achieve the competencies of the graduating Family Physician; we will provide great teaching by great teachers who will concentrate on you as a Resident in the full knowledge that 2 years is only the start of your learning as a Family Physician and we will go out of our way to support you throughout the Program, making your health and well-being our number one priority.
If you are a practising Family Physician or recent Family Medicine graduate who wants to develop enhanced skills in a specific area we provide the opportunity to do so in our Enhanced Skills program. As an Enhanced Skills resident you will gain the opportunity over 12 months to build your knowledge and skillset in one of our speciality areas: Care of the Elderly, Family Medicine Emergency Medicine, Family Practice Anaesthesia, Palliative Medicine, Addiction Medicine, Maternal Newborn Care, Global Health, Scholarship and Research or Sport and Exercise Medicine.
