Alberta Screening & Prevention
What is ASaP?
Alberta Screening and Prevention (ASaP) is a program that helps clinics to be proactive in offering preventive screening to all patients – even those who don’t make appointments for annual check-ups or physicals.
Did you know?
- Regular screening can prevent diseases/conditions or catch them early when they can be treated
- Most screening happens at an annual exam –‘check-up’ or ‘physical’ – but at least 1/3 of Albertans don’t book these appointments, so they don’t get screened
- Sunridge Family Medicine Teaching Centre has a program to make sure our patients are offered preventative screening at the right time
What does it mean for me?
When you come in to the clinic for an appointment, the nurse will check to see if you are due to be screened for:
- Colorectal cancer
- Blood pressure
- Women: pap test for cervical cancer and mammogram for breast cancer
If you are due, the clinic team will offer screening at that appointment, or they may ask you to book another appointment.
